Dear Class of 2021,

I’m writing to let you know that the DVHS staff has been thinking about you.  The school closures that happened last March were sudden.  At the time, I don’t think any of us anticipated being nearly a year away from campus and one another.  We know this year has been really challenging for all of you and we’re proud of the perseverance you’ve shown.  As we get closer to Spring we want to be sure you know about the plans we’re making specifically for you, the Senior Class of 2021.

First, we are planning for the annual Senior Mural Tradition. We have identified the location for your mural; we’ve chosen a very visible spot between the MPR and DVHS Office. Over the next two months, some senior student leaders will be creating the mural concept and the final design will allow for each of you to add a personalized component to the mural. Beginning around April 2nd, we will be inviting those of you who want to participate to come to campus on a Friday afternoon in a small group  of no more than 14 students to add your personalized component. Stay tuned for more information from me and your senior teachers on this exciting project .

Second, we are planning for your Da Vinci Graduation, a ceremony that is held in high reverence in our community.  Our hope is that we will be able to hold some version of an in-person graduation and we are preparing for that with a positive mindset since the public health conditions are improving and will likely permit this activity to take place.  Our leaders are thinking creatively about critical  issues for this important day including, how to have you cross a stage, how you can see and interact with your peers, how your family can participate, and more.  If health conditions take a turn for the worse, we also need to be ready for a virtual graduation.  While this is obviously not what we hope for, last year’s Da Vinci’ Virtual Graduation gave us a great foundation and we are confident that we can provide a ceremony that honors you, your achievements, and this special moment in your life.  I will provide updates on end of year activities specifically for the Class of 2021 on our website (in the tab Message from the Principal in the About section) and via School Messenger.

Third, we have a parent committee within the DVCA Boosters that continues to coordinate with DVHS, DJUSD and other parent groups around the district. This group continues to plan for celebratory events such as a Senior parade, goodie bags, and the Goodies for Grads discount program in the City of Davis.  Last year’s car parade was a great success and we are grateful for our parents who are organizing a similar event this year where you are safe, celebrated, and can see your community come together to celebrate the Class of 2021.  More details are forthcoming but you can expect to have the opportunity to drive through where displays and stationary floats while your community is present to celebrate your accomplishments.

Finally, we are making plans to be back on campus for on-campus activities as well as the launching of Hybrid in-person instruction, when the conditions are met.  That means our teachers, leadership classes, clubs, and staff are working together to greet you back on campus this spring and are considering additional Senior-specific opportunities and celebrations.

If you have any questions about Da Vinci specific aspects for the Class of 2021, please reach out to me at [email protected]. If you have comments or suggestions for DJUSD to consider, please send them to [email protected].

Best regards,
