Where do you intern?
UC Davis Department of Design

What responsibilities do you have at your internship?
I am learning hands-on skills in website design and development. I am learning HTML and CSS, which are coding languages used to make web pages, through designing my own portfolio website. I am also one of the facilitators for the newly-formed UC Davis Girls Who Code Club which is hosted by the UC Davis Design Department. My role in the Club is to introduce computer science to 3rd-5th grade girls and teach them how to code using a programming language called Scratch.

What do you like about your internship?:
I like that I am gaining real-world skills during my internship that I can apply to my future career. I am learning how to communicate professionally with people of all ages – from elementary school girls, to college students and university professors. Through the Girls Who Code Club I am learning about ways to teach complicated topics to others in a more easy and fun way.

What advice would you give others who are considering an internship?
An internship is a good way to try out a career path to see if it feels like a good fit and if you really enjoy it. You can interact with professionals and get a feel for whether you see yourself doing what they do in the future.
