  • Attention Class of 2021!: Have you participated in any civic events or activities or done volunteer work over your years at Da Vinci High School? Want to earn a cord to wear at graduation and have the State seal added to your diploma? The California State Board of Education (SBE) now awards a State Seal of Civic Engagement (SSCE) to California students who demonstrate excellence in civics education and participation, and an understanding of the United States Constitution, the California Constitution, and the democratic system of government.

To earn the Seal of Civic Engagement, DHS graduating seniors need to meet the following criteria:
    1. Be engaged in academic work in a productive way. - On track to graduate and in good standing
    2. Demonstrate a competent understanding of key curriculum. - Completed the course requirements
    3. Participate in civic engagement project(s). - Evidence of work going above and beyond in school projects, clubs, organizations, volunteer work, other civic activities.
    4. Demonstrate civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions. - Written reflection
    5. Exhibit civically-oriented character traits. - Mentor Recommendation
Davis Joint Unified School District has developed the criteria for DJUSD students to earn the State Seal for Civic Engagement. According to the guidelines set forth by the state, applicants who meet the criteria will earn the State Seal on their high school diploma and a cord to wear at graduation this June.

DJUSD has a mission to provide opportunities for students to thrive and contribute to the communities around them, and seeks to recognize students for their efforts and achievements in civic engagement. In alignment with the district’s graduate profile, students are cultivated to have civic and cultural awareness, and students that demonstrate exemplary efforts in civic action, ones that promote inclusivity and diversity, deserve recognition. To earn this accolade by the district and state, proof of work must be documented. Students are asked to collect and provide evidence of this contribution of work, and then submit to an online form. The form asks students for contact information for themselves, counselors, teachers, mentors, as well as a written reflection.

Please complete this form to apply: DJUSD Application for the CA State Seal of Civic Engagement

To learn the requirements for earning the seal, based on the five criteria identified above, please review this rubric.
Form must be completed by May 7th by NOON - NO EXCEPTIONS - Open to All DJUSD Students
